A Love Affair With #13 Evita Weed

- I've currently come to a bit of a cross roads in my life, I'm not sure where I am going, nor where I want to go. I currently have so MANY options, but then at the same time, so FEW.

- I often find myself drifting into another world, or, fiddling with cameras. I have a bit of a collection. I love it when someone else's work can be such a large influence in my mind.

A Love Affair With #12 : Muhr Photography (Don't You Just Hate all The Dead Flies Hanging Around?!)

- The other night I was sat in the pub after a little bit of an argument with the Mr (resolved now. kissed. made up!) with some of my best friends, because of the significant morphine consumption at the moment (still, I know, it's been a long time now!) I can't actually drink, I was having a strop as it was and one of my friends threw a magazine at me, which I then decided to read. . (antisoc, you don't need to tell me!)

- I'll get on to what I found in that magazine, which grossed me out, a little later, but first, just look at these beautiful portraits.

- After I had finished being considerably grossed out by said other art project, I stumbled across these portraits, and I love them so much. . . the simplicity of them, yet the complexity of the subject choices.

- Now, here, is what I found originally. . .

1266601160_resized

- why yes! yes these are dead flies arranged onto drawings!

dead flies

- My initial reaction is 'eugh!' - but then I started to think that actually, is rather clever, then my thoughts went to 'how many flies does this guy have in his house?!' I mean, there are plenty there, but those are just the dead ones. . . does he collect dead flies? does he re-use his dead flies? Why dead flies?!

- So many questions I want to ask the guy. . . but he redeemed himself with the portraiture!

(I'm also not going to lie, the image of the fly shaving it's legs on the toilet seat made me giggle!)

A Love Affair With: Kate Towers #11

- Ok, So not the usual, but I am in love with these photos I love how Kate often plays with contrasting themes and borrows inspiration from nature and romance.

- Everything in these photos is, to me, perfection.

- Kate Towers  is a young designer from Portland, she now sells her designs on etsy here *ClickyClicky*

- I do love a lot of Kate's designs, in particular this, but it is the photographs of her collections that really speak to me.

-Her blog here (not updated very regularly *ahem 2008*)

- If I'm honest, these photos remind me of Mylène Farmer . .  in particular her song Fuck Them All - I'm not sure why, they just do. . . So I tracked down the song (avec english subtitles for everyone who doesn't speak french)

A Love Affair With: Andrey Yakovlev & Lili Aleeva #10

- Andrey and Lili are the perfect dream team from Moscow.

- They have hundreds of beautiful images in numerous collections but these are my absolute favourites. (Material Girl, Old Movie, High Sky of Spain, and Hic et Nunc)

- I adore fashion photography, mainly because it does what I like best, it captures people.

- I even fell head over heels for these black and white images, because despite the fact that they are black and white, they don't feel it, you can really feel the depth of the colour in the images.

-Side note: how gorgeous is the model Maria Osinzeva in the first two images?!

- I love his work, I love the cross processed effect he has on the pictures and I love the floating people.

-Most of all I love that he has an entire collection focussed on cows!

Cole Rise Cows
- Who has a collection on cows? Oh that's right Cole Rise does, I don't know why I find this so amusing, I mean if you think about it, why not? Yet somehow, everyone overlooks them, you get pictures of cats, why not cows?

- Despite the fact that his pictures are focussed on cows, you almost forget that the cow is there and look past them to the beautiful landscapes.

- You want to know the best bit about Cole Rise? (other than he provided the artwork for Flyleaf) He looks like this.

A Love Affair With: Greg Martin #8

- My general feeling towards photographs is that they are a little lost without people in them. A place is just a place without people, with people it becomes alive, it has a soul and it has memories.

- Therefore, for me to like photographs of landscapes is pretty rare, but these are just beautiful.

- Greg Martin manages to present the places almost as though they are just waiting for you to arrive and create memories.

Winter Beach
(This reminds me of a beach me and my best friends visit regularly!)
Temperate Rainforest
(These two are a little Twilight-y but shush now, they are beautiful!)
Into the mist

Hood River Express

Crater Lake Dawn

- I can imagine myself in every one of these places. I want to be in most of them. I want to create my own memories. Right, who wants to come on a road trip with me?

- I also love the size of his images, not quite panoramic, and a little unconventional. I approve!

- Go stalk on twitter!

A Love Affair With: Zena Holloway #7

zena 5

- To begin with, this is the song Sirens of the Sea by OceanLab. Holloway shot the photographs of the singer for the cover of the album *ClickyClicky*. It is definitely not my first song of choice, and I have spent a fair amount of time trying to decide whether or not it goes with Holloway's artwork. I shall leave that up to you as I can't decide.

- The Artist I have chosen to feature this time is 38 year old, Bahranian born Zena Holloway.

- After my Love Affair with Elena Kalis I became somewhat obsessed with underwater photography, there is just something so peaceful about the images.

- Her love for underwater photography apparently started in Egypt on a scuba diving holiday when she was 18. She returned three years later to gain PADI qualifications.

-She then continued photographing underwater during her time as a commercial diver and diving instructor. Later in 1995 she returned to England where she worked in fashion and advertising.1

- I guess this concept is a bit of an amalgamation of her two loves, being underwater, and fashion photography. (Never let it be said that I'm not a genius!!)

- On her website there are many breathtaking editorials and sets, as well as advertisements which feature her work, however this set is my favourite, entitled Sirens.

I have also found a video on youtube by Zena, entitled SwanSongs. . (which makes me think of Hollywood Undead, but that's a different matter entirely!) It's beautiful, here it is!!

A Love Affair With: Jeffrey Moustache #6

Hello world!

- Home pelut, o és molt savi o és molt ruc. - Wise words ;)

- One very brilliant hairy man is a certain MR. Jeffrey Moustache.

- Photographing primarily action sports, he sometimes turns his hands to other ventures.

- I know I've said it before, but I love photography most when it captures the essence of the person in the photograph. I don't like flat photographs - the person is there, but they have been dressed up and altered so much they no longer represent themselves. They become blank.

- Having said that, I think it is most difficult to capture a sportsman (or woman! Oh heyyy Suray Fernandez!!) looking past simply what they are doing. Sure you can take a picture of them competing, but that somehow loses the character behind the eyes of the individual. Moustache is one of the gifted few who can capture both at once.

- I especially love his portraits. . .

- If you're nosy like me, you can always stalk Jeffrey on Twitter : Constant updates of what someone is up to? Why was Twitter not invented sooner?!

- You could take the less creepy-stalker route and follow Jeffrey's Tumblr

- You could take the UBER creepy route and take a look at Jeffrey's FACEBOOK!

- Or you could be completely normal, and check out his pictures at his website : HAHA, clearly I have never heard of being normal!

- Either way, I can't wait for this summer to be over, so I can get back on my board!
